Snapchat Planets are a Snapchat+ feature called the Friend Solar System. It shows your ranking among a friend’s eight Best Friends based on Snapchat activity. The planets follow this order: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, representing positions 1 to 8. Mercury is the highest position, while Neptune is the lowest. Your planet can change as your Snaps and Chats activity changes. The ranking reflects Snapchat interaction and does not necessarily mean you are someone’s best friend in real life.
What Are Snapchat Planets?
Snapchat Planets are part of Snapchat’s Friend Solar System feature. The feature is available to Snapchat+ subscribers and uses a solar-system design to show where you stand among a friend’s Best Friends.
The Sun represents the friend whose profile you are viewing. Your Bitmoji appears as one of the planets around that person. The planet you receive represents your position in that person’s Best Friends list.
Snapchat says Best Friends are the eight people a user Snaps and Chats with most. The Solar System is private, and it does not display a complete list of everybody’s positions.
Snapchat Planets Order From 1 to 8
The planet order follows the same basic order as the planets in our solar system, starting closest to the Sun.
The complete Snapchat planet ranking is:
1. Mercury — closest position
2. Venus — second position
3. Earth — third position
4. Mars — fourth position
5. Jupiter — fifth position
6. Saturn — sixth position
7. Uranus — seventh position
8. Neptune — eighth position
This means Mercury represents the first position, while Neptune represents the eighth position. The planets are not assigned randomly. Their order represents different places within the Best Friends ranking.
Why Does Snapchat Use a Solar System?
The solar-system design gives users a simple visual way to understand friendship activity. Rather than displaying a number such as “You are #3,” Snapchat uses planets and distance from the Sun.
This design also fits Snapchat’s use of Bitmoji and Friendmoji features. Your Bitmoji becomes part of the visual system, making the feature feel more like a social experience than a standard ranking page.
Snapchat has explained that the Solar System was created to give users more context about their friendships and communication patterns. It is an optional feature and is private between the people involved.
Mercury Meaning on Snapchat
Mercury is the first planet in the Snapchat Friend Solar System. If you appear as Mercury in someone’s Solar System, you hold the number one position among that person’s Best Friends.
In simple terms, Mercury means that you are currently the closest-ranked friend in that particular Snapchat relationship.
This does not automatically mean you are that person’s best friend in real life. It only describes the position created by Snapchat’s activity-based system.
Venus Meaning on Snapchat
Venus represents the second position. If your Bitmoji appears as Venus, you are ranked second among that friend’s Best Friends.
You are still very high on the list, but another person occupies the Mercury position.
The Venus position can change because Snapchat’s Best Friends system is based on communication activity over time. If another friendship becomes more active, your position may move.
Earth Meaning on Snapchat
Earth represents the third position in the Snapchat planet order.
Someone shown as Earth is among the three highest-ranked friends in that particular Solar System. The position reflects Snapchat’s friendship ranking rather than a personal judgment about the quality of the relationship.
This distinction matters because online interaction and real-life friendship are not always the same thing.
Mars Meaning on Snapchat
Mars is position number four.
If you are represented by Mars, you are still inside the person’s eight Best Friends positions, but three people are ranked ahead of you.
Your position can change as your communication habits change. More frequent interaction may move a friendship upward, while reduced activity can cause a lower position.
Jupiter Meaning on Snapchat
Jupiter represents the fifth position.
Because Jupiter is physically a large planet in the real solar system, some users assume that it must represent a higher friendship level. That is not how Snapchat works.
The size or appearance of the planet does not determine the friendship ranking. Jupiter simply represents position five in the Snapchat planet order.
Saturn Meaning on Snapchat
Saturn is the sixth position in the Friend Solar System.
A Saturn position means you are currently sixth among that person’s Best Friends. You are still within the eight positions represented by the Solar System.
The position should be viewed as a snapshot of Snapchat activity rather than a permanent label.
Uranus Meaning on Snapchat
Uranus represents position number seven.
If your Bitmoji appears as Uranus, you are near the lower end of the eight Best Friends positions. One more position exists below it: Neptune.
That does not necessarily mean the friendship is weak. Your ranking can depend on how often you and the other person communicate compared with their other Snapchat contacts.
Neptune Meaning on Snapchat
Neptune is the eighth and final planet in the Snapchat Friend Solar System.
Being Neptune means you currently occupy the eighth position among that person’s Best Friends.
It is easy to misunderstand this position as a negative statement about a friendship. Snapchat’s system does not make that kind of personal judgment. Neptune simply represents the eighth position in the feature.
How Snapchat Decides Your Planet
Snapchat’s Best Friends system is connected to communication activity. Snapchat describes Best Friends as the eight people someone Snaps and Chats with most frequently over a rolling period.
This means your position can depend on patterns such as how frequently you communicate with someone compared with their other Snapchat contacts.
There is no simple public rule such as “send exactly 50 Snaps and become Mercury.” Snapchat does not provide users with a fixed number of messages required for every position.
Your planet is therefore better understood as an activity-based position rather than a score that you can calculate yourself.
Why Your Snapchat Planet Can Change
Your planet is not necessarily permanent.
If you communicate with someone more frequently, your position may change. The same can happen if that person starts interacting more with another friend.
For example, imagine you are currently Mars. If your interaction becomes stronger relative to the other friendships in that person’s Best Friends group, you could move toward Earth, Venus, or even Mercury.
The opposite can happen too. A drop in interaction may move you toward Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, or Neptune.
This is why checking your planet at different times can produce different results.
How to See Snapchat Planets
You need Snapchat+ to use the Friend Solar System feature.
When the feature is available, Snapchat can show a Best Friends badge with a gold ring on a Friendship Profile. Tapping the badge can reveal your planet position in that person’s Solar System.
The general process is:
Open Snapchat and go to the relevant friend’s Friendship Profile.
Look for the Best Friends badge with the gold ring.
Tap the badge to view the Solar System.
Your Bitmoji will appear on the planet representing your position.
The exact appearance can vary as Snapchat updates its interface, but the basic concept remains the same.
How to Turn On Snapchat Planets
One reason users may not see Snapchat planets is that the Solar System feature is not automatically active for new Snapchat+ subscribers.
Snapchat’s official support page says the Solar System is off by default for first-time subscribers. It can be activated through Snapchat+ feature management and can also be turned off again later.
If your planets are not showing, check your Snapchat+ settings first. You should also make sure your subscription is active and that you are looking at a Friendship Profile where the feature applies.
What If Snapchat Planets Are Not Showing?
There are several possible reasons for missing planet information.
You may not have Snapchat+. The Solar System is a Snapchat+ feature.
The feature may be turned off. New Snapchat+ subscribers have the Solar System turned off by default.
You may not have a qualifying Best Friends relationship with the person.
The app may also display features differently after an update.
If you cannot see the Solar System, checking Snapchat+ feature management is a sensible first step. Snapchat’s official support information confirms that the feature can be manually enabled or disabled.
Is Mercury Always Your Real Best Friend?
No.
This is one of the biggest misunderstandings about Snapchat planets.
A Mercury position means you currently hold the first position in that person’s Snapchat Best Friends ranking. It does not prove that you are their closest friend outside Snapchat.
People communicate differently online and in real life. Someone may rarely use Snapchat but still have a very close relationship with a person offline.
Snapchat itself describes the Solar System as a way to show communication frequency, not a complete measurement of a personal relationship.
Can Two People Have Different Planet Positions?
Yes.
The Solar System is based on each person’s individual Best Friends activity.
For example, you could be Mercury in one friend’s Solar System while being Saturn in another friend’s Solar System. Both positions can be correct because each friendship is being considered separately.
Your position therefore should not be treated as one universal Snapchat friendship rank.
The planet depends on whose Solar System you are viewing.
Snapchat+ and the Friend Solar System
Snapchat+ provides additional features beyond the standard Snapchat experience. The Friend Solar System is one of the features connected to the subscription.
Snapchat introduced the Solar System as an optional way for subscribers to understand friendship activity. In 2024, Snapchat said the feature was being turned off by default for new subscribers so users could choose whether they wanted to use it.
Snapchat continues to develop Snapchat+ as a paid layer of the platform. In July 2026, Snapchat said its subscription products had grown to more than 25 million subscribers globally.
Snapchat Planets vs. Snapchat Streaks
Snapchat planets and Streaks are not the same feature.
A Streak represents consecutive days of Snapping back and forth with another person. The Solar System, on the other hand, represents your position within a friend’s Best Friends relationship system.
A long Streak does not automatically mean you are Mercury.
Likewise, having Mercury status does not tell you how long your Streak has existed.
Both features relate to Snapchat communication, but they measure different things.
Snapchat Planets and Friendship Ranking
The easiest way to understand the system is to think of the planets as eight positions.
Mercury is position one.
Venus is position two.
Earth is position three.
Mars is position four.
Jupiter is position five.
Saturn is position six.
Uranus is position seven.
Neptune is position eight.
The closer the planet is to the Sun, the higher the position.
This makes the Snapchat planet system easier to remember without treating each planet as a separate type of friendship.
A Simple Way to Remember the Order
If you often forget the Snapchat planets order, remember the normal solar-system sequence:
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune.
The same sequence is used for Snapchat’s eight friendship positions.
The key difference is that Snapchat is not trying to teach astronomy. It uses the familiar planet order as a visual ranking system.
So when you see Mercury, think number one. When you see Neptune, think number eight.
Common Snapchat Planet Misunderstandings
Several assumptions about Snapchat planets can lead to confusion.
A planet is not a permanent friendship label. Your position can change.
Jupiter is not better because it is physically larger than the other planets.
Neptune does not mean that a friendship is bad.
Mercury does not prove that someone is your best friend in real life.
The Solar System does not show every Snapchat contact.
Most importantly, the feature should not be treated as a complete measurement of a relationship. Snapchat’s own explanation describes it as a representation of communication frequency.
What Snapchat Planets Really Tell You
At their simplest, Snapchat planets show where you currently sit within a friend’s Snapchat Best Friends system.
They can help answer a question like, “How high am I ranked among this person’s most active Snapchat friendships?”
They cannot answer deeper questions such as whether someone cares about you more than another person, whether you are their closest friend offline, or whether a relationship will remain strong.
The planet is a feature of Snapchat activity, not a complete picture of someone’s personal life.
Final Thoughts on SnapchatPlanetsOrders.com
SnapchatPlanetsOrders.com is a useful topic for anyone trying to understand the meaning behind Snapchat’s Friend Solar System. The system uses eight planets to represent eight Best Friends positions, beginning with Mercury and ending with Neptune.
Mercury represents the first position, while Neptune represents the eighth. Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus fill the positions between them.
The most important point is that these positions are connected to Snapchat interaction. They can change as communication patterns change, so a planet should not be treated as a permanent friendship status.
If you use Snapchat+, the Solar System can provide an interesting snapshot of how your Snapchat friendship activity compares within a particular relationship. Just remember that online rankings are only one small part of a real friendship.
